Celebrity Push-Ups: Single-Set Counts by Famous Non-Athletes
Across the 85 famous non-athletes with push-up records in the data, the top 30 marks run from 47 reps up to 1000 reps in one set. The ranking includes actors, musicians, politicians, authors, and tech founders.
Every entry tracks one continuous set, its source, and the effort type: an official test, reps to failure, a working set, or effort unknown. Working set and effort-unknown marks carry no confirmed maximum status.
High counts at the top of the list
Actor Marlon Brando holds #1 with 1000 reps, a childhood feat from a reported school push-up record. TIME quoted Stefan Kanfer’s biography of Brando in 2008, noting a teacher reportedly stopped the set. This single biographical report carries low confidence, effort unknown, and no known feat date or repetition standard.
At #2, Telegram founder Pavel Durov stated in a 2025 interview at age 40 that he does 300 reps in a row without interruption as part of his morning routine (working set). No independent count is reported. Stage actor Catherine Russell (#3) self-reported in a 2021 AFP interview that she does a continuous set of 180 reps of Marine push-ups at age 65 (effort unknown). At #4, celebrity chef and retired Army master sergeant Andre Rush stated in a 2023 interview that his regular working set is 125 reps.
Official tests and reps to failure
Only one entry in the top 30 comes from an official test. At #21, South Korean actor Hyun Bin did 50 reps at age 28 in a South Korean Marine Corps applicant fitness test on 24 December 2010, earning the full 15 points according to a MyDaily report.
Several marks record reps to failure. Podcaster Joe Rogan (#9) completed 75 reps on video at age 54–55 in a 2022 podcast push-up contest counted by guests Bert Kreischer and Ari Shaffir. Longevity entrepreneur Bryan Johnson (#11) logged 60 reps to failure at age 44 in his September 2021 Blueprint gym age assessment notes. Author John Green (#28) reached 47 reps to failure on Day 99 of his 2017 100 Days fitness series, per an archived transcript, where his trainer accepted 47 and Green said the final repetitions were not clean.
Actors and musicians in training and on stage
Other marks come from interviews, training sets, or concerts. Record producer Rick Rubin (#7) self-reported a consecutive set of 100 reps after training with Laird Hamilton on a 2019 podcast (effort unknown). A Screen Daily reporter observed actor Sterling K. Brown (#26) complete a working set of 50 reps with Kelvin Harrison Jr. at the end of a 2019 interview before doing one extra, making 50 reps a floor. Rapper DMX (#20) did an uninterrupted working set of 50 reps at age 45 during a 2016 Apollo Theater concert, reported by XXL.
Politicians and marks past age 60
Politicians and older figures appear through public demonstrations and birthday sets. U.S. senator Strom Thurmond (#8) did 100 reps in a 1967 demonstration for his 65th birthday, reported in “Senate Balance Teeters on 98-Year-Old Legs” (effort unknown). XPRIZE founder Peter Diamandis (#6) stated on his 2025 podcast that he did a working set of 100 reps on his 64th birthday. Tamil Nadu governor R. N. Ravi (#16) did a consecutive working set of 51 reps at age 73 at a 2025 International Yoga Day event in Madurai.
At #29 and #30, Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth stated at his 2025 Senate confirmation hearing that he did five working sets of 47 reps that morning, at age 44, and Maryland governor Wes Moore posted a 2025 birthday video of 47 reps at age 47 (effort unknown).
Readers can compare their own push-up numbers on the person pages.
Each person appears once, with the same best record as their page: for a lift, the highest estimated one-rep max; otherwise the most reps or the fastest time. "Working set" and "Effort unknown" marks are training numbers, so the person's true best may be higher. How the data is collected.
