NFL Players Marathon Times: 15 Race Finishes
Our database tracks 15 NFL players who ran a marathon, with finish times ranging from 3:19:00 at rank 1 to 7:51:57 at rank 15. The group spans offensive linemen, a defensive end, linebackers, cornerbacks, running backs, a wide receiver, a quarterback, and a long snapper.
Every entry in this ranking carries a Competition effort label. On our site, Competition and Official test records represent measured results from organized events. All 15 marathon times below come from organized races in Chicago, Boston, New York City and New Orleans.
Offensive and defensive linemen at the top of the board
Linemen hold 3 of the top 6 spots in the dataset. Isaac Rochell, who played defensive end for the Chargers, Colts, Browns, and Raiders, leads all 15 players with a 3:19:00 finish. Rochell retired from the NFL earlier in 2025 and ran that mark at the 2025 Chicago Marathon at age 30.
Justin Britt also ran the 2025 Chicago Marathon and holds rank 3 on the leaderboard. The retired center for the Seattle Seahawks and Houston Texans completed the course in 3:36:51 at age 34.
Alan Faneca sits at rank 6 with a 3:56:17 finish at the 2014 Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans Marathon. A former Pittsburgh Steelers guard and Pro Football Hall of Fame member, Faneca played as a 300-pound lineman during his NFL career. He lost over 100 lb after retiring from football and ran his 3:56 marathon at age 37.
First marathons and repeat finishes in retirement
Former New York Giants cornerback Jason Sehorn, who played from 1994-2002, holds rank 2 on the board at 3:19:26. Sehorn recorded that finish at the 2019 New York City Marathon at age 48 in his first marathon.
Several other retired players logged their marathon marks between age 44 and age 54. Roger Craig, the San Francisco 49ers running back with three Super Bowl wins, holds rank 5 after running 3:51:04 at the 2005 Chicago Marathon at age 45. Craig wore bib 33 for the race, matching his 49ers jersey number.
Retired New York Giants running back Tiki Barber holds rank 8 with a 4:18:24 finish at the 2019 TCS New York City Marathon at age 44. That 4:18:24 time is his marathon personal best.
Doug Flutie is the oldest finisher among the players with a listed age, at 54. The 1984 Heisman Trophy winner and retired NFL and CFL quarterback completed the 2017 Boston Marathon in 4:50:11 to take rank 12 on the list.
Major city courses and charity runs across the data
Clear patterns run through the 15 records. Nearly every finish comes from 3 major marathons. Across the dataset, 6 players ran the Chicago Marathon, 5 ran the Boston Marathon, and 3 ran the New York City Marathon. Faneca’s 2014 race at the Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans Marathon is the only entry on another course.
Retired players also used these races to support charity teams after leaving the field. Tedy Bruschi, a New England Patriots linebacker from 1996-2008 with three Super Bowl wins, ran 4:35:35 for rank 10 at the 2019 Boston Marathon at age 45 with Tedy’s Team, a stroke charity. Across the entire table, 2019 was the busiest race year with 4 finishes split between Boston and New York City, followed by 3 finishes at the 2025 Chicago Marathon.
